MYTHICAL EUROPEAN TOPONIMY. INTERACTIVE GLOSSARY AND DATABASE FOR THE STUDY OF MYTHOLOGICALLY RELEVANT PLACE NAMES IN THE GREEK AND ROMAN DOMAIN

 

 

THE PROJECT AIMS TO IDENTIFY AND HIGHLIGHT, IN THE LITERARY AND HISTORICAL CONTEXT, THE EUROPEAN PLACE NAMES, BELONGING MOSTLY TO MEDITERRANEAN AND PONTUS SPACE, CONNECTED TO THE MYTHOLOGICAL REFERENCES OF ANTIQUITY AND GREEK AND ROMAN MIDDLE AGES.

ON THE FIRST LEVEL – THE LINGUISTIC LEVEL – WE INTEND TO ACCOMPLISH A GLOSSARY OF GREEK AND LATIN PLACE NAMES IN ROMANIAN TRANSLITERATION (OR, IF NECESSARY, TRANSLATION), SUSTAINED BY GEOGRAPHICAL AND LITERARY NOTES: THESE NOTES TARGET TO IDENTIFY THE PLACE, REGION OR RELIEF MAP. IT IS IMPORTANT TO NOTICE THAT THERE IS NO OFFICIALLY ESTABLISHED SET OF RULES IN ROMANIAN LANGUAGE, MEANT TO REPRESENT A NORM THAT WORKS EFFICIENTLY AND EXHAUSTIVE ON THE GREEK AND LATIN NAMES (EITHER PLACE NAMES OR PERSON NAMES).

ON THE SECOND LEVEL – THE CULTURE ANTHROPOLOGICAL LEVEL – THE PROJECT AIMS TO IDENTIFY THE MYTHS AND LEGENDS CONNECTED TO PLACE NAMES OF THIS SPECIFIC DOMAIN AND EPOCH: THE PRECISE PURPOSE IS TO CREATE AN INTERDISCIPLINARY ATLAS (GEOGRAPHICAL, HISTORICAL AND MYTHOLOGICAL). BY ACHIEVING A DATABASE ACCESSIBLE ON WEB AND CD-ROM, AS AN INTERACTIVE MAP, THIS PROJECT ENVISAGES IN AN UPDATED MANNER AN AREA OF VAST INTEREST, THAT HAS NOT YET BENEFITED IN THE ROMANIAN CULTURE BY AN APPROACH BASED ON MODERN METHODS AND INSTRUMENTS OF THE SCIENCES INVOLVED.

THE RESEARCH TEAM HAS INTENDS TO ACCOMPLISH A PARADIGM OF KNOWLEDGE AND LEARNING CAPABLE TO OFFER A FLEXIBLE AND INTERACTIVE MODEL ADDRESSED TO STUDENTS (BOTH FROM HIGH SCHOOL AND UNIVERSITY) AND TEACHERS/PROFESSORS, NEVERTHELESS TO RESEARCHERS, TRANSLATORS, JOURNALISTS, EDITORS AND, LAST BUT NOT LEAST, TO A WIDE PUBLIC. THIS PROJECT DEVELOPS A KNOWLEDGE AND LEARNING SYSTEM, BUILT ON A LARGE BASIS, MEANT TO PROVIDE SIGNIFICANT INFORMATION FOR A WIDE-RANGING PUBLIC, ON DIFFERENT LEVELS OF AGE AND INSTRUCTION, IN BOTH EDUCATIONAL/SCIENTIFIC AND INDIVIDUAL CONTEXT.?????
